Artist to the “First Dog”.
Starting her art career at age five with drawings of her cat, by 1986 Sarahlee Kittons had created “Whiskerkins”, a series of whimsical dog and cat designs on pottery. In 1992 a Florida gallery owner reported a sale to Millie, America’s First Dog at the time.
Sarahlee discovered a love for watercolors and since 1997 continues to create illustrations for Gallery Ballet’s annual recital, in McMinnville, Oregon. In 2004 she moved to Hawaii and began painting canvas as a functional form and studying block printing techniques in addition to watercolor.
Her new surroundings have stimulated an interest in Hawaiian design, poetry and memoir writing. Associating cultural aspects and meaning has brought about a deeper appreciation and experience to Sarahlee. This life path is birthing opportunities of spirit and presenting itself a voice through her art.
